Balancing Great Spangled Fritillary Butterfly
Butterflies are well known. The scientific name for these creatures is Lepidoptera, derived from the Greek words "lepido" for scale and "ptera" for wings, which refers to the flattened hairs (scales) that cover the body and wings of most adults. This is a Great Spangled Fritillary found in Columbus, Ohio on a spring day in 2017.
