Description Love SpoonsLove spoons originated in Wales in the17th century. Originally made for utilitarian use, they soon became articles to be kept & admired. They developed Symbolic significance as young men made them while thinking about a young lady of their fancy. Seamen passed time away at seaAgain trying to show their devotion orIntentions for a lady. One explanation of their origin wasthat the fathers of the intended gavesuitors, when they called, a knife and a piece of wood to occupy their hands while callingthus the term Spooning. Love Spoons are popular again asmementos from a visit to Wales, or givenfor presents, engagements, anniversaries, weddings, friendship, & to special people.
Karen Adams, Delaware, Ohio Member Since November 2011 Artist Statement I have always loved making art. In college it was painting and ceramics that held my interests, but through the years, photography has become my main focus (no pun intended!) This has combined with a love of gardening, then an interest in the gorgeous butterflies that were my companions out in the sunshine. So now, I would like to share the beauty I live with in my backyard garden in Ohio.
